Andrea Born-Horowitz, LCSW

I have extensive experience working with individuals who struggle with OCD and/or a history of trauma, and are looking to improve their well-being. To achieve this, I employ evidence-based interventions such as EMDR and exposure and response prevention (ERP). My ultimate goal is to guide my clients towards a successful recovery and to help them reach their full potential.

Acknowledging and seeking treatment for OCD can be challenging, especially if you haven’t received a formal diagnosis yet. It’s common for people to live with OCD symptoms for an extended period of time, often finding comfort in the familiar patterns of behavior. However, there may be times when these compulsions become overwhelming and start to interfere with daily life. Fortunately, with effective treatment, recovery is attainable. ERP, in particular, has proven to be a highly successful approach in managing and reducing OCD symptoms.

In addition, I have experience working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, phobias, relationship difficulties, and other mental health issues. My therapeutic approach is grounded in warmth, openness, and a lack of judgment. My priority is to create a safe space where clients feel comfortable sharing their concerns and confident in their capacity to build resilience and tackle obstacles. In working with clients, I personalize my approach to suit each individual’s unique needs. This includes exploring different treatment options and collaborating with clients to create an effective plan that will help them achieve their desired outcomes.

Thomas Szczygiel, LCSW-R

I recognize that change and loss, as well as unexpected and unwanted circumstances, can impact life and foster a sense of hopelessness. Understanding that these changes may be painful and often times debilitating, I seek to provide a safe, trusting and supportive environment to promote healing and growth in each and every client I work with. I work with individuals and families that experience a wide range of behavioral and emotional impairments, including depression, anxiety, grief/loss, stress management, PTSD and addictions. My approach to therapy is tailored to each individual client.Among the approaches I use are solution focused therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy and when appropriate, holistic therapy. These techniques are used to help clients, gain awareness and acceptance of their true self, restore self-regulation, regain responsibility, and re-own their power and potential. In my work, I truly believe that self-awareness is the key to personal healing, and will restore the growth process. As you learn more about your true self, and learn to love, accept, and appreciate who you really are, growth takes place naturally.

Kayleigh Tomkins-Lipsitz, LCSW

I possess extensive expertise in supporting clients who may be dealing with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance abuse, grief, and life transitions. To provide effective treatment, I rely on a combination of techniques, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy. My approach is centered around each client’s unique needs and preferences, which I identify through a holistic assessment process. My goal is to help clients alleviate their symptoms and achieve their desired outcomes, taking into account cultural and lifestyle factors that may influence their mental health. I am particularly dedicated to supporting women and members of the LGBTQ+ community in finding peace within their communities.

In addition to my therapeutic techniques, I also prioritize creating a warm and nonjudgmental environment for my clients. I believe that a safe and welcoming space is essential for clients to feel comfortable discussing their thoughts and feelings. I make a concerted effort to establish trust and build rapport with each client, fostering an environment of open communication and collaboration. My aim is to help clients feel heard, validated, and supported throughout their journey towards improved mental health. I believe that a compassionate and nonjudgmental approach is integral to achieving positive outcomes and empowering clients to make meaningful changes in their lives.

Life doesn’t always lead us down the pathways we expected.  Sometimes we find ourselves feeling lost, alone, and unsure of which way to turn.  Anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD and other symptoms can feel smothering and overwhelming leaving us with a feeling of hopelessness and sense of loss of control.  The things we experience as we grow and develop impact the way we view the world. Traumatic events and negative experiences can change the way we think and respond.

The good news is you are not alone!  Together we can work collaboratively to set achievable goals and develop a personalized treatment plan. We will celebrate the small (and BIG) victories and I will be there to help you navigate those expected setbacks on your path to healing. I look forward to walking by your side as you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, and I will help you acquire the tools to overcome challenges and to foster your personal growth and revert to a life path where you feel you have more control.

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, in addition to strong focus in Mindfulness to create a holistic and client-centered therapeutic experience. In partnering with you to recognize unhelpful thought patterns, discovering your intrinsic motivation for change, and building the resilience to accept and act in line with your values we will foster personal growth, cultivate empowerment, and develop lasting change together.  I would be happy to partner with you on your journey.

In clinic settings over the last 10 years, I have worked with many people dealing with substance use related issues.  If you are finding that you could use support, guidance, and new skills to change your habits around drinking alcohol, smoking tobacco, marijuana, or using other substances, I will work with you to ensure that I am the right type of provider and then assist you in making the changes you desire.  These therapy tools often help people make changes in behaviours that feel compulsive as well.  Whatever it is that is troubling you, I will be a non-judgemental source of support to help you work through it.

I use a variety of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Practices, Psychoeducation, and Narrative Therapy, among others.

I also am certified to work with individuals who are in need of a mandated NYS assessment as a result of DUI or DWI.  These services are treated differently than a regular session.  If you are in need of this service, please contact me for additional information about costs and expectations.
